Geneva, Switzerland – May 2, 2025 — On the fifth and final day of a five-day sit-in at Place des Nations in front of the United Nations European headquarters, supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) renewed their call for global action against the Iranian regime’s escalating wave of executions, especially the imminent execution of political prisoners.
The sit-in began on April 28 and concluded on May 2. Notably, the fourth day of the protest, May 1, coincided with International Workers’ Day. On that day, participants paid tribute to Iranian laborers, particularly those who lost their lives in the recent tragic explosion in Bandar Abbas. Protesters blamed the Iranian regime and the IRGC for the catastrophe, citing the illegal storage of sensitive chemical and military materials in civilian zones as a deliberate act that turned public areas into death traps.
Throughout the five-day protest, demonstrators expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of Iran, especially workers and political prisoners. They strongly condemned the regime’s rampant use of the death penalty and called for its immediate abolition. The participants demanded the unconditional release of all political prisoners, highlighting the cases of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, both MEK supporters at imminent risk of execution for their political beliefs.
Protesters also urged the international community to take meaningful action—specifically, to refer officials of the Iranian regime to international courts for crimes against humanity. They advocated for recognition of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) as the democratic alternative to the theocratic dictatorship and reaffirmed their support for Resistance Units inside Iran, who continue to risk their lives for freedom, democracy, and human rights.
