On July 28, 2025, Iranians in Geneva held a protest at Place des Nations, outside the UN headquarters. They gathered to denounce the execution of MEK political prisoners in Iran. The protest was organized by supporters of the Iranian Resistance.
They condemned the killing of Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani, both members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). These executions were carried out by the regime in Ghezel Hesar Prison.
Crimes Against Humanity and UN Responsibility
Protesters called the executions crimes against humanity. They demanded action from the United Nations, democratic governments, and human rights organizations. According to them, the regime must be held accountable. Moreover, they asked the international community to end the regime’s long-standing impunity.
Remembering the 1988 Massacre
The demonstration also marked the 37th anniversary of the 1988 massacre in Iran. Over 30,000 political prisoners, mostly MEK members, were executed. Protesters referred to a report by UN Special Rapporteur Javaid Rehman, who classified the massacre as an atrocity crime.
In addition, they urged for an international investigation and the trial of those responsible.
Demands for Justice and Freedom
Protesters expressed support for PMOI Resistance Unit inside Iran. They called for a democratic republic based on freedom and equality. Both theocracy and monarchy were firmly rejected.
Their demands included:
-
Abolition of the death penalty in Iran
-
Immediate release of all political prisoners
-
Recognition of the Iranian people’s right to resist tyranny
A Global Message for Justice
The Geneva protest was part of a larger global movement. Iranians around the world are speaking out. They oppose the execution of MEK political prisoners and demand international justice.
The message was clear: human rights violations must not go unpunished.
