Rally in Toronto Condemns Executions, Demands Release of Political Prisoners

Toronto, Canada – July 19, 2025

Toronto, Canada – July 19, 2025 – Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) held a rally to condemn the wave of death sentences and intensified repression targeting political prisoners by Iran’s regime. Organizers demanded the immediate cancellation of death sentences and the unconditional release of all political prisoners.

Participants denounced the regime’s recent threats to transfer Saeed Masouri—one of Iran’s longest-imprisoned political prisoners—to the notorious Zahedan Prison. They described this threat as a clear signal of danger to his life and part of the regime’s broader strategy of intimidation and isolation.

Recently, the mullahs’ regime sentenced three political activists—Farshad Etemadi-Far, Masoud Jamei, and Alireza Mardasi—to death after enduring two years of brutal torture. They were charged with “moharebeh” (waging war on God) solely for their support of the PMOI. Meanwhile, the regime’s so-called Supreme Court rejected a fourth appeal for a judicial review concerning two other death-row political prisoners, Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, effectively paving the path for their imminent executions.

Protesters also condemned the broader policy of forcibly displacing political prisoners, warning that such actions are often a precursor to mass executions and enforced disappearances. Drawing parallels to the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran, they declared: “A crime is in progress.”

The demonstrators called for the immediate release of all political prisoners and urged the international community to hold the Iranian regime accountable for its crimes. They appealed for the prosecution of regime leaders in international courts for crimes against humanity.

Organizers also emphasized the PMOI’s vision for a free, democratic, and secular Iran—rejecting both the current theocratic regime and any return to monarchy.
