San Francisco Rally and Photo Exhibit Condemn Executions in Iran, Call for Release of Political Prisoners

San Francisco – July 20, 2025

San Francisco – July 20, 2025 – Members of the Iranian American community in San Francisco, supporters of the Iranian Resistance including the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), organized a rally, bookstand, and photo exhibition to denounce the recent surge in death sentences and escalating repression against political prisoners by the Iranian regime. The event called for the immediate revocation of all death sentences and the unconditional release of political prisoners.

Participants strongly condemned the regime’s threats to transfer Saeed Masouri—one of the longest-held political prisoners in Iran—to the notorious Zahedan Prison. They warned that such a move would endanger his life and is part of a broader campaign of intimidation, isolation, and psychological torture by the regime.

Speakers highlighted the recent death sentences issued against three political activists—Farshad Etemadi-Far, Masoud Jamei, and Alireza Mardasi—following two years of brutal torture. The activists were convicted of moharebeh (waging war on God) solely for their support of the PMOI. The regime’s so-called Supreme Court also rejected a fourth appeal for judicial review for two other political prisoners, Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, effectively clearing the way for their executions.

Protesters also criticized the regime’s policy of forcibly relocating political prisoners to remote and harsh facilities—often a prelude to mass executions or enforced disappearances. They drew chilling parallels to the 1988 massacre of political prisoners, warning: “A crime is in progress.”

The demonstrators demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners and urged the international community to hold the Iranian regime accountable for ongoing human rights violations. They called for international tribunals to prosecute regime leaders for crimes against humanity.

Organizers underscored the PMOI’s vision of a free, democratic, and secular Iran—rejecting both the current theocracy and any return to monarchy.
