Gothenburg: Rally Against Executions in Iran, Marking 81st Week of “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign

Gothenburg, Sweden – August 12, 2025

Gothenburg, Sweden – August 12, 2025: Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) gathered in Gothenburg to mark the 46th consecutive week of local participation in the global “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. The movement protests the Iranian regime’s escalating wave of executions and systematic repression.

This week’s rally coincided with the 81st consecutive week of protests by political prisoners across Iran, now spanning 49 prisons. The campaign reflects a growing resistance movement and highlights the urgent need for international attention and action.

Protesters Condemn Executions of MEK Members in Iran

A central focus of the Gothenburg demonstration was to raise the alarm over the imminent execution of five political prisoners in Iran: Vahid Bani-Amerian, Pouya Ghobadi, Shahrokh Daneshvarkar, Mohammad Taghavi, and Babak Alipour. The Iranian regime has transferred them to Ghezel Hesar Prison—infamous for its frequent executions—putting their lives in immediate peril.

The protest also denounced the recent state-sanctioned executions of PMOI members Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani, underscoring the regime’s intensifying campaign of repression.

Demonstrators strongly denounced the Iranian regime’s increasing use of the death penalty, calling for the immediate annulment of all death sentences and the unconditional release of political prisoners.

Freedom-loving Iranians in Gothenburg expressed support for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and her call to expand the “No to Executions” campaign globally.

Calls for International Action and Recognition of Iranian Resistance

The protesters demanded that the regime’s leaders be prosecuted for crimes against humanity in an international tribunal. They also urged the Swedish government to end its policy of appeasement toward Tehran and to formally designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Finally, the demonstrators reaffirmed the Iranian people’s call for a democratic republic, rejecting both religious dictatorship and any return to monarchy. They stressed the importance of recognizing the Iranian Resistance and supporting the MEK Resistance Units inside Iran in their fight for freedom and justice.
