Gothenburg, Sweden — August 9, 2025 — Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) gathered in Gothenburg to warn of the imminent execution of five political prisoners in Iran — Vahid Bani-Amerian, Pouya Ghobadi, Shahrokh Daneshvarkar, Mohammad Taghavi, and Babak Alipour — after their transfer to Ghezel Hesar Prison, a site notorious for carrying out executions. Organizers said the transfers place the men’s lives at immediate risk.
The rally also condemned the recent state-sanctioned executions of PMOI members Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani and denounced what participants described as an escalating campaign of repression by the Iranian regime.
Demonstrators voiced steadfast support for PMOI Resistance Units operating inside Iran and reaffirmed their vision for a democratic republic founded on freedom, equality, and secular governance — explicitly rejecting both theocracy and monarchy.
Protesters issued three central demands:
-
the complete abolition of the death penalty in Iran;
-
the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners; and
-
international recognition of the Iranian people’s right to resist tyranny and calls for accountability and justice for victims of state violence.
Freedom-loving Iranians in Los Angeles echoed the rally’s message and backed Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), to expand participation in the “No to Executions” campaign.
MEK supporters in Gothenburg also joyfully marked the upcoming 60th anniversary of the PMOI’s founding on September 6, celebrating the organization’s legacy and struggle for freedom. They called on Iranians and human rights advocates to join the Free Iran Grand Rally on September 6, 2025.
Participants reaffirmed their support for the NCRI and Maryam Rajavi’s “Third Option,” which rejects both foreign military intervention and appeasement in favor of democratic change led by the Iranian people and their organized resistance movement.
