Gothenburg Rally in Solidarity with the 99th Week of Iran’s ‘No to Execution Tuesdays’ Campaign

Weekly Rally Against Executions in Gothenburg

Gothenburg, Sweden – December 16, 2025 – Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) gathered in Gothenburg to mark the 64th consecutive week of local participation in the global “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. The movement protests the Iranian regime’s escalating wave of executions and systematic repression.

This week’s rally marked the 99th consecutive week of protests by political prisoners in 55 prisons across Iran, reflecting a growing resistance movement and underscoring the urgent need for international attention and action.

Participants strongly condemned the Iranian regime’s increasing use of the death penalty, calling for the immediate annulment of all death sentences and the unconditional release of political prisoners.

Participants also held up images of Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani, the 30-year-old former boxing champion and political prisoner whose death sentence was recently upheld by the Iranian regime and whose case has now been transferred for execution, urging protesters and international observers alike to demand the immediate annulment of his death sentence and his unconditional release. Vafaei Sani’s situation has drawn widespread attention as a stark example of the regime’s use of capital punishment against dissenters and supporters of democratic movements, and demonstrators in Gothenburg specifically called for global action to save his life.

Global Call to Expand the “No to Executions” Campaign

Freedom-loving Iranians in Gothenburg expressed their support for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and her call to expand the “No to Executions” campaign globally.

Protesters called for the prosecution of the regime’s leaders for crimes against humanity in an international tribunal.
