Weekly Rally Against Executions in Gothenburg

Gothenburg, Sweden – January 6, 2025 – Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) gathered in Gothenburg to mark the 102nd consecutive week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. The movement protests the Iranian regime’s escalating wave of executions and systematic repression.

Participants strongly condemned the Iranian regime’s increasing use of the death penalty, calling for the immediate annulment of all death sentences and the unconditional release of political prisoners.

Iranians in Gothenburg also expressed strong solidarity with the nationwide protests in Iran. Braving snowy, sub-zero temperatures, participants chanted anti-regime slogans to voice their support for compatriots who have risen up inside the country.

Demonstrators called for the establishment of a free and democratic republic in Iran, rejecting all forms of autocracy—whether monarchical or theocratic. They held pictures of the martyrs of the uprising and carried banners echoing the demands of protesters inside Iran, including “Regime change in Iran by the people of Iran” and “No to the Shah! No to the Mullahs!”

Global Call to Expand the “No to Executions” Campaign

Freedom-loving Iranians in Gothenburg expressed their support for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and her call to expand the “No to Executions” campaign globally.

They reaffirmed that the presence of Iranian Resistance supporters in cities like Gothenburg is a pledge that political prisoners in Iran are not alone and that their struggle is neither forgotten nor invisible. The Iranian community in Gothenburg stood united—against execution, against oppression, and in defense of life, dignity, and a free Iran. Protesters also called for the prosecution of the regime’s leaders for crimes against humanity before an international tribunal.

A Unified Call for Global Solidarity

The gathering concluded with a unified appeal for international support for the Iranian people’s struggle against tyranny and recognition of the MEK’s Resistance Units as a vital part of the nationwide campaign for freedom, dignity, and democracy in Iran.
