Weekly Rally Against Executions in Gothenburg
Gothenburg, Sweden – January 20, 2025 – Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) gathered in Gothenburg to mark the 104th consecutive week of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign. The movement protests the Iranian regime’s escalating wave of executions and systematic repression.
Participants strongly condemned the Iranian regime’s escalating executions, and the disappearance of protesters, calling for the immediate annulment of all death sentences and the unconditional release of political prisoners.
Iranians in Gothenburg also expressed strong solidarity with the nationwide protests in Iran. Participants chanted anti-regime slogans to voice their support for compatriots who have risen up inside the country.
Global Call to Expand the “No to Executions” Campaign
Freedom-loving Iranians in Gothenburg expressed their support for Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and her call to expand the “No to Executions” campaign globally.
They reaffirmed that the presence of Iranian Resistance supporters in cities like Gothenburg is a pledge that political prisoners in Iran are not alone and that their struggle is neither forgotten nor invisible. The Iranian community in Gothenburg stood united—against execution, against oppression, and in defense of life, dignity, and a free Iran. Protesters also called for the prosecution of the regime’s leaders for crimes against humanity before an international tribunal.
A Unified Call for Global Solidarity
The gathering concluded with a unified appeal for international support for the Iranian people’s struggle against tyranny and recognition of the MEK’s Resistance Units as a vital part of the nationwide campaign for freedom, dignity, and democracy in Iran.
Iranians in Gothenburg also commemorated January 20 (corresponding to the 30th of Dey in the Iranian calendar), marking the anniversary of the release of the last group of political prisoners from the prisons of the overthrown monarchical dictatorship in 1979.
