Stockholm, Sweden – March 1, 2026 — In the early hours of March 1, shortly after reports confirmed the death of Ali Khamenei, supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran PMOI/MEK) gathered in front of the Iranian regime’s embassy in Stockholm. Demonstrators called for the overthrow of the clerical establishment and voiced support for the MEK’s Resistance Units inside Iran, describing the moment as a turning point in the country’s political future.
Later the same day, a second rally was held outside Sweden’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm, where supporters endorsed the official announcement of a Provisional Government by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a coalition of democratic Iranian opposition forces. Participants presented the NCRI initiative as a viable democratic alternative for Iran in the post-Khamenei era.
Chants during both gatherings called for the establishment of a free and democratic republic in Iran. Organizers emphasized that the demonstrations reflected solidarity with the Iranian people’s struggle for fundamental political change and underscored the resolve of the Iranian diaspora to support a peaceful transition of power.
Speakers at the rally reiterated their rejection of both the former monarchical system and the current religious dictatorship, arguing that Iran’s future must be determined by its people through democratic governance. They expressed strong support for the ten-point plan proposed by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI, describing it as a comprehensive framework for a transitional government based on universal suffrage, gender equality, individual freedoms, and the rule of law.
The NCRI’s Provisional Government declaration, issued on February 28, outlines a roadmap aimed at transferring sovereignty to the Iranian people and dismantling institutions associated with absolute clerical rule, paving the way for the establishment of a democratic republic.
