Rally in Washington, D.C. on May 16: Thousands to Call for “No to Executions” and a Democratic Republic in Iran

Iranian Resistance supporters gather in Washington, D.C. demanding an end to executions and a democratic Iran.

Washington, D.C. — May 8, 2026:  A major rally organized by the Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC) is set to take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Upper Senate Park, drawing thousands of participants in support of a free and democratic Iran.

The demonstration, scheduled for 11:00 AM, will highlight a central message: “No to Executions, Yes to a Democratic Republic in Iran,” along with a clear rejection of both the dictatorship of the defunct monarchical regimes and the ruling clerical (mullah) regime. Organizers say the rally aims to condemn the Iranian regime’s increasing use of executions, particularly against political prisoners, and to call for their immediate release.

According to organizers, the event will bring together Iranian Americans and supporters of human rights to protest ongoing repression and express solidarity with the Iranian people’s demand for democratic change.

The Iranian American Community of North Texas (IACNT) wrote on the X platform: “On May 16, members of our community are joining thousands from across the U.S. in Washington, D.C. for a national rally organized by OIAC: Organization of Iranian American Communities. We demand an immediate end to executions in Iran and stand with the Iranian people and their organized resistance for regime change.”

The Iranian American Community of Georgia also expressed support for the event:

The Iranian American Community of New York wrote: “From every walk of life, we come together as one voice for freedom, justice, and hope  Join this moment. Stand with the Iranian people. Let’s make it heard in the heart of Washington.”

The National Organization for Women (NOW) Virginia chapter wrote on X: “National Organization for Women NOW Virginia chapter supports Free Iran Rally for Peace and Human rights.”

“…on Saturday, May 16 will be a Human Rights and Peace Rally in support of Iranian women who are living under the shadow of executions and war. Across Iran, women and young people continue to face arrest, torture, and death sentences, with a sharp rise in executions and repression in recent months.

Stand in solidarity with the courageous women of Iran who are enduring both war and systemic repression, yet continue to risk their lives to demand freedom, dignity, and justice. Attend to send a message that the world is watching and will not be silent.”

In the lead-up to the rally, supporters held outreach events across Washington, D.C., including a book table on May 7, where they engaged the public and encouraged freedom-loving individuals to attend the demonstration.

The rally is expected to serve as a unified platform to raise awareness about human rights violations in Iran and to amplify calls for an end to executions and the establishment of a democratic republic.
