Washington, DC – July 25, 2026: Iranian American supporters of the Iranian Resistance gathered at the Lincoln Memorial to protest the execution of political prisoner and PMOI member Mehdi Khanaki, who was executed for his alleged involvement in Iran’s January uprising. Demonstrators condemned the rising use of the death penalty and called for international accountability for the regime’s human rights violations. They also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners in Iran.

Chants of “Executions in Iran must end! must end!”, “Down with terrorist regime of Iran”, “Stop executions in Iran now now now!”, and “Down with dictator, long live freedom”, echoed throughout the rally, underscoring support for democratic change led by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.

Protesters strongly denounced the regime’s actions as flagrant violations of fundamental human rights. Many held photographs of victims of political repression, honoring their memory and reaffirming their commitment to the struggle for freedom, justice, and the establishment of a democratic republic in Iran.

Organizers further stressed that the Iranian people reject all forms of dictatorship, whether monarchical or theocratic, and called for greater international support for their ongoing resistance and democratic aspirations.

The rally also received international media attention. Reuters covered the event under the headline, “Supporters of Iranian opposition leader Maryam Rajavi gather at the Lincoln Memorial to call for an immediate end to executions,” highlighting the growing global focus on Iran’s human rights situation.
