
Heidelberg, Germany – August 22, 2026 – Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) held a rally and photo exhibition in Heidelberg to commemorate the anniversary of the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran and to condemn the ongoing use of the death penalty by the Iranian regime.
The event honored the memory of thousands of political prisoners who were executed during the 1988 massacre and paid tribute to all those who have lost their lives in Iran’s struggle for freedom and human rights. Participants called for justice for the victims and emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of those who lost their lives in pursuit of freedom and democracy.
Call to Abolish the Death Penalty in Iran
Participants called for the complete abolition of the death penalty in Iran and the unconditional release of all political prisoners, particularly those at risk of imminent execution. They also called for senior Iranian regime officials responsible for human rights violations to be brought before an international tribunal and held accountable for crimes against humanity.
The rally also condemned the continued use of executions as a tool of repression in Iran, stressing that the death penalty must not be used to silence dissent or intimidate those seeking political and social change.
A Call for Justice and a Free Iran
The exhibition expressed support for NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi’s “No to Executions” campaign and called for its expansion worldwide.
Participants also reaffirmed their call for regime change and the establishment of a secular and democratic republic in Iran, rejecting both theocratic rule and monarchy.
