Iran’s 2022 Uprising Anniversary: MEK Resistance Units Pay Tribute

Iran's 2022 Uprising Anniversary: MEK Resistance Units Pay Tribute

On the occasion of the anniversary of Iran’s uprising, despite the regime’s stringent measures to thwart any protest gatherings, the courageous Resistance Units conducted anti-regime actions across numerous cities to keep the spirit of the uprising alive.

These Resistance Units consist of activists affiliated with the PMOI operating within Iran, and they have played a pivotal role in orchestrating protests and thwarting the regime’s attempts to instill an atmosphere of fear.

The Resistant Units made their presence felt in over 40 cities. On the eve of the uprising’s anniversary, September 15, in Zahedan, southeast Iran, the Resistance Units initiated anti-regime activities. One member of the Resistance Unit displayed a placard bearing the words, “We will not compromise with the mullahs or the shah over the blood of Zahedan’s Bloody Friday martyrs.” This grim episode unfolded on Friday, September 30, 2022, when security forces in Zahedan fired upon peaceful demonstrators, resulting in the tragic deaths of over 100 individuals, including more than a dozen children.

The Resistance Units reiterated one of the key slogans from the nationwide uprising: “Death to the oppressor, be it the shah or the mullahs.” Others held placards proclaiming, “Staying silent in the face of the mullahs and the shah’s crimes will spell the end of Baluchestan.”

These activities occurred amidst substantial efforts by certain media outlets and political organizations to advocate for a return to the ousted Pahlavi regime’s monarchy.

On the uprising’s anniversary, the Resistance Units projected images of Iranian Resistance leaders and messages of resistance and rebellion in various cities.

In Tehran’s Evin Highway, the Resistance Units projected an image of Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi along with the message, “The uprising will reignite and dismantle the religious dictatorship.”

In Tehran’s Imam Ali Highway and Daneshvar Street, they displayed large images of Massoud Rajavi and NCRI president-elect Maryam Rajavi.

In Rasht, Rashtian Boulevard, a substantial image of Maryam Rajavi was projected, bearing the message: “No to forced hijab, no to forced religion, no to forced government.”

In Tabriz, Sahand Boulevard, Mahaleh Street, an image of Massoud Rajavi was projected with the message: “The executioner’s noose has no power over the Damavand mountain.”

In Shiraz’s Azadi Boulevard and Shahriar Street, a sizable image of Massoud Rajavi carried the message: “The rebels will triumph; the people’s uprising will not be subdued.”

Similar activities unfolded in Arak, Karaj, and Miandoab.

On September 17, the Resistance Units conducted activities in numerous cities. In Tehran, they displayed photos of Massoud Rajavi accompanied by the message, “Let the world know that Massoud is our leader, and the army of freedom is our ultimate response.” They also distributed pamphlets throughout the city bearing the message, “We are the men and women of war; we will fight to reclaim Iran.” One placard featuring Maryam Rajavi’s photo read, “Freedom of attire will only be achieved with the overthrow of the mullahs’ regime.”

Resistance Units carried out similar activities in Tabriz, Shiraz, Mashhad, Karaj, Shahrud, Fasa, Neyshabur, Babol, Zanjan, Dehdasht, Sari, Qazvin, Bandar Anzali, Omidiyeh, Langrud, Arak, Abadan, Sanandaj, Sabzevar, Eslamshahr, Kermanshah, Mashhad, Ahvaz, and Zahedan.

In Shiraz, the Resistance Units displayed placards declaring, “Death to the oppressor, be it the Shah or the mullahs.”

In Karaj, they put up posters proclaiming, “Death to Khamenei, hail to Rajavi.”

In Babol, a Resistance Unit member held a photo of Massoud Rajavi with the message, “Have no doubt that our people will emerge victorious.”

In Qazvin, a Resistance Unit member exhibited a placard stating, “The fall of the inhumane enemy is inevitable.”

All these activities unfolded while the regime had been on high alert since September 11. In Tehran alone, more than 40,000 security forces were deployed to quell any form of dissent. Plainclothes agents were dispatched to identify and apprehend dissidents throughout the city.

The security forces were tasked with suppressing any form of assembly, demonstrating heightened sensitivity to gatherings of more than three people. They were heavily armed and equipped with anti-riot gear.

Senior regime officials issued warnings about security threats, particularly from PMOI activists. In the lead-up to the uprising’s anniversary, the regime carried out a massive wave of arrests, targeting known PMOI supporters and the relatives of PMOI members.

However, once again, the Resistance Units demonstrated their resilience against the regime’s repressive tactics. They are unwaveringly committed to following in the footsteps of the thousands of PMOI members who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their nation. Like those who preceded them, they will persist on this path until the people are liberated from the shackles of tyranny.
