MEK Resistance Units Honor PMOI Founders Executed by the Shah’s Regime on 1972 Anniversary Across Iran

MEK Resistance Units Honors PMOI Founders

On May 24, 2025, Resistance Units of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) marked the anniversary of the 1972 execution of their founders—Mohammad Hanifnejad, Saeid Mohsen, and Ali Asghar Badizadegan—by the Shah’s regime.

Across cities like Tehran, Mashhad, Isfahan, Karaj, Kerman, Zahedan, Yasuj, Qazvin and Hamedan, supporters displayed banners featuring the founders’ images and messages of resistance. The MEK, founded in 1965, continues its fight for a democratic, secular Iran, opposing the current regime’s theocratic rule and its escalating human rights abuses, including 1,200 executions reported by Amnesty International in 2023.

This commemoration reflects the enduring legacy of the PMOI founders, who sought freedom and tolerance, a vision now carried forward by the MEK and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) under leaders Massoud and Maryam Rajavi.
