Canada Rallies Condemn Iran’s Regime, Demand Halt to Executions of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani

Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver — April 26, 2025

Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver — April 26, 2025 — Coordinated rallies across three major Canadian cities drew attention to the dire human rights situation in Iran, with a particular focus on political prisoners at risk of execution.

Supporters of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), organized the event to highlight ongoing human rights violations in the country. The exhibition focused especially on the cases of Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, two political prisoners reportedly at imminent risk of execution.

According to Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM), the request for a judicial review (appeal for retrial) for political prisoner Behrouz Ehsani has been officially rejected. This decision follows the earlier rejection of a similar appeal by Mehdi Hassani. With these denials, both men now face immediate danger of execution.

The rallies featured visual exhibits, posters, and firsthand testimonies, drawing attention to the systemic repression in Iran, particularly the regime’s use of the death penalty to silence dissent. Attendees engaged in advocacy efforts including signing petitions and amplifying the cause on social media. MEK supporters called for coordinated international action to hold Iranian regime officials accountable for ongoing crimes against humanity.
