An Iran Congressional Briefing entitled “Support Nationwide Uprising for a Democratic Iranian Republic” was held at the Rayburn House Office Building on Thursday, November 17, 2022. Bipartisan members of Congress attended the meeting to hear the remarks by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).
Members of Congress Brad Sherman (D-CA), Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), and Joe Wilson (R-SC) from the Foreign Affairs Committee; Tom McClintock (R-CA) from the Judiciary Committee; Scott Peters (D-CA) from the Governmental Affairs Oversight Committee; Lance Gooden (R-TX) from the Financial Services Committee; Randy Webber (R-TX) from the Public Education Committee; Judy Chu (D-CA) from the Ways and Means Committee; Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) from the Judiciary Committee; and Steve Cohen (D-TN), Chair of the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice in the Judiciary Committee delivered speeches to the meeting.
The representatives deemed it necessary to hold the mullahs’ regime accountable for killing Iran protesters in 2022 and November 2019 and the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in 1988. They underlined the need to reject all forms of dictatorship in Iran, both the Shah and the mullahs.
Mrs. Rajavi, in part of her speech to the US congress members at the Congressional Briefing, said: “I want to express the Iranian people’s shared desire in their continuous fight against the mullahs across the nation in past two months. They ask the world to recognize their struggle to topple the regime and their fight against IRGC.”
She added: ”The Iranian regime considers the MEK as its main existential threat. The defining benchmark for relations with foreign countries, particularly in Europe and the US, is their position on the MEK. Today, a revolution is underway in the making in Iran.”
