Maryam Rajavi’s Address at the British Parliament Conference

Maryam Rajavi's Address at the British Parliament Conference

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), sent a message  to a conference held at the UK Parliament on May 7, 2024.

In her message to the British Parliament, Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, expressed her gratitude to the British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) and the International Committee of Parliamentarians for a Democratic Iran for sponsoring the event. She paid tribute to ProfessorAlejo Vidal-Quadras and Amparo, stating that Mr. Vidal-Quadras is a symbol of courage and perseverance in the struggle for freedom and democracy in Iran.

Mrs. Rajavi emphasized that any concessions granted to the Iranian regime only serve to intensify tensions and embolden the regime’s repressive measures against the Iranian people. She called on the UK government to take a firm and principled approach towards the Iranian regime, including designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, which would make it a criminal offense in the UK to belong to the force, attend its meetings, or carry its logo in public.

Mrs. Rajavi’s message highlighted the urgent need for the UK to prioritize human rights, advocate for regional stability, and support the rule of law in its engagement with the Middle East and North Africa. She expressed deep concern about the Iranian regime’s egregious human rights abuses, including systematic discrimination against women, political repression, and the violent crackdown on peaceful protesters.

The BCFIF, which includes over 100 cross-party MPs and peers from various political parties, has been actively advocating for a comprehensive approach that addresses the interconnected issues of democracy, stability, and human rights in the region.

Maryam Rajavi’s message aligned with the BCFIF‘s recommendations to the UK government, which include demanding the release of all political prisoners in Iran and other MENA countries, insisting on the immediate release of protesters imprisoned during the current uprising in Iran, and advocating for a coalition to hold officials accountable for human rights abuses.

Mrs. Rajavi at the end of her message said:

On behalf of the Iranian people’s Resistance, I call on governments and international bodies to implement these policies:

1. Officially designating the IRGC as a terrorist entity;
2. Declaring the Iranian regime as a threat to world peace and security under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter;
3. Activating the snapback mechanism in UN Security Council Resolution 2231; and restoring Security Council resolutions on the regime’s nuclear projects; and
4. Recognizing the Iranian people’s struggle to overthrow the mullahs’ regime.
