Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), delivered a strong message to thousands of Iranian demonstrators gathered in Brussels on March 19, 2026, coinciding with a European Union leaders’ summit.
In her address, Mrs. Rajavi emphasized the Iranian people’s demand for “peace and freedom” and firmly rejected both the current clerical establishment and any return to monarchy. She called on European leaders to abandon decades of appeasement toward Tehran and instead recognize the Iranian people’s right to overthrow the ruling system and establish a democratic republic.
A central theme of her message was the NCRI’s proposal for a provisional government aimed at transferring sovereignty to the people of Iran, based on a democratic framework outlined in its Ten-Point Plan. Rajavi also urged the EU to take concrete measures, including closing Iranian regime embassies in Europe, expelling operatives linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and pressuring Tehran to release political prisoners.
Highlighting the regime’s escalating repression and regional actions, Mrs. Rajavi warned that continued inaction would embolden its pursuit of nuclear weapons, domestic crackdowns, and destabilizing activities in the Middle East. She reiterated that the only viable solution lies in change led by the Iranian people and their organized resistance.
Referring to ongoing protests and resistance activities inside Iran, Mrs. Rajavi said the ruling authorities increasingly fear popular uprisings and organized opposition forces. She pointed to the unity among Iran’s diverse ethnic communities as a driving force behind a democratic transformation.
Two decades ago, we warned that the solution to Iran’s crisis lies neither in appeasement nor in foreign war. The only path is regime change by the Iranian people and their organized resistance. And we said that appeasement would ultimately lead to war.https://t.co/6xbZNAIuJI pic.twitter.com/0d2Cq2TCNL

Maryam Rajavi’s Message to the Iranians’ Rally in Brussels Concurrent with the EU Leaders’ Summit
Recognize the NCRI’s Provisional Government for the Transfer of Sovereignty to the People of Iran
Dear compatriots,
In these urgent and turbulent times that have engulfed our beloved Iran, your voices are a cry for peace and freedom, echoing the will of a people who have never desired the rule of the clerical regime, nor its bombs and missiles.
Salute to you, who seize every moment to stand in defense of the people and their Resistance. Today, you have come to tell the European Union to recognize the will and the right of the Iranian people to bring down religious fascism.
Today, Khamenei’s son struggles to preserve a decaying dictatorship, while the Shah’s son seeks to restore one long dead.
But the people of Iran say: peace and freedom.
The people of Iran declare: a democratic republic, sovereignty vested in the people, and an end to all forms of dictatorship, whether of the Shah or the mullahs.
With this very aim, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has announced a provisional government to transfer sovereignty to the people of Iran, based on its Ten-Point Plan.
Shut down the Clerical Regime’s Embassies
Dear compatriots,
For four decades, a policy of appeasement has sharpened the blade of religious fascism against the throat of the Iranian people. The outcome of that policy now stands before the eyes of the world:
Emboldening the regime in pursuing nuclear weapons, the execution and torture of Iran’s youth, and warmongering across the Middle East.
Two decades ago, we warned that the solution to Iran’s crisis lies neither in appeasement nor in foreign war. The only path is regime change by the Iranian people and their organized resistance. And we said that appeasement would ultimately lead to war.
On the eve of the European Union summit, we call on its leaders to correct the failed policy of the past four decades. We urge them to:
Press the clerical regime to release political prisoners and those detained in the uprising;
Expel agents of the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the regime’s operatives from European soil;
Shut down the embassies of the clerical dictatorship in European countries;
And recognize the provisional government for the transfer of sovereignty to the people of Iran.
Dear compatriots,
Today, the ruling clerics and their executioners fear you more than ever.
One day, they threaten to repeat the massacre of 1988; another day, they warn of renewing the bloodshed of January 8th and 9th; and yet another, they admit to issuing orders to open fire on protesters.
At the same time, they have turned their brutal attacks toward the bases of Iranian Kurdish groups in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, killing Peshmerga fighters and the sons and daughters of Iranian Kurdistan.
They see in the people and their resistance the very force that will bring about their downfall, rising through organized uprisings, Resistance Units, and the Liberation Army.
A people and a resistance striving for a democratic revolution and a democratic republic;
One that, by defending the rights of ethnic nationalities—Kurds, Baluch, Turkmen, and Arabs—has fostered unity among Iranians against a dying clerical rule.
The people of Iran are writing their destiny with the blood of their brave sons and daughters.
Yes, in the words of Massoud Rajavi: “Confronting and overthrowing this regime is the task of the Iranian people, the rebellious youth, the rebellious cities, and the National Liberation Army.”
The springtime of freedom for the people of Iran is on its way.
Long live peace and freedom.
Victory to the democratic revolution of the people of Iran.
