Italian Parliament Conference Focuses on the Iranian Crisis and a Democratic Solution for the Future

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), addressed a conference at the Italian Parliament on the Iranian crisis and the prospects for a democratic solution for the future. In her remarks, she expressed appreciation for the support of members of both houses of the Italian Parliament and referred to their declaration emphasizing a realistic, democratic, and popular solution to the crisis in Iran.

Speaking at the home of Italian democracy, Maryam Rajavi thanked Italian lawmakers and friends of the Iranian people’s Resistance for their support and stated that she was speaking on behalf of Iran’s organized resistance for peace and freedom. She called on Italy and the European Union to stand in solidarity with the people of Iran.

“Adopting the Right Policy Toward Iran”

Maryam Rajavi stated that the current situation requires the adoption of the right policy toward Iran and said that alignment with the organized resistance of the Iranian people would leave no room for what she described as opportunistic and diversionary currents.

She referred to activities promoting a return to the past and stated that such efforts had lost credibility, particularly in Europe. She emphasized that Italy and the European Union should adopt a firm position against what she described as the ruling dictatorship in Iran and should not ignore violations of human rights or grant impunity to those responsible.

Maryam Rajavi stated that Europe would regain credibility in the Middle East when it played an effective role at the center of the region’s crisis, which she identified as Iran. She said this required recognizing the will of the Iranian people to establish a democratic republic.

“What We Seek Is a Democratic Republic”

In her address, Maryam Rajavi outlined the principles of the democratic republic proposed by the Iranian Resistance. She described it as a system based on the separation of religion and state, gender equality, and the abolition of the death penalty.

She also referred to a non-nuclear Iran, free of weapons of mass destruction, founded on peace, coexistence, and international and regional cooperation.

Maryam Rajavi stated that a democratic republic is the objective of the provisional government designated by the National Council of Resistance of Iran and said that the motto of the Resistance and the provisional government is peace and freedom.

“Neither Appeasement Nor War: The Third Option”

Maryam Rajavi reiterated that the solution for Iran is neither appeasement nor war, but what she described as a “Third Option”: regime change by the Iranian people and their organized Resistance.

She stated that lasting peace and security in the region depend on addressing the situation inside Iran and said that this task rests with the Iranian people, their uprisings, and the Liberation Army.

She referred to the history of the Iranian Resistance and stated that it had been a supporter of peace throughout the history of the current regime. She also referred to the Resistance’s role in exposing Iran’s nuclear program and emphasized the importance of a solution led by the Iranian people.

Italian Parliament’s Declaration as a Model of Policy Toward Iran

Maryam Rajavi described the statement signed by the majority of both chambers of the Italian Parliament as a model of the correct policy toward Iran. She stated that the declaration supported the provisional government and the Resistance movement as steps toward establishing democracy and stability in Iran and promoting peace and coexistence in the region and the world.

She expressed hope that the Italian government and the European Union would follow what she described as the foresight and realism demonstrated by Italian representatives.

“Peace and Freedom as the Future of Iran”

Maryam Rajavi concluded her remarks by emphasizing the objective of a democratic republic and calling for international support for the Iranian people’s aspirations for freedom and democracy.

She stated that the future of Iran should be based on peace, freedom, democratic institutions, and cooperation with the international community.
