Iran’s is enriching uranium at Fordow, a facility north of Qom, the UN nuclear watchdog (IAEA) announced on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.
The operation involves a cascade of 166 advanced IR-6 centrifuges, enriching uranium at up to 20% purity, IAEA warned.
Iran has installed another cascade of 94 IR-6 machines at Fordow that is not yet operating, IAEA said. The announcement comes while Tehran is in talks with world powers to revive the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA.)
Under the JCPOA, Iran agreed not to enrich uranium beyond 3.67% purity. The JCPOA also bans Iran from enriching uranium at the Fordow site.
