November 20, 2022: Sunday, November 20, marked the 66th day of nationwide protests against the Iranian regime, which began on September 16. Iran’s protests have expanded to 243 cities and all 31 provinces across the country.
According to reports gathered by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the regime has so far killed 600 civilians and arrested 30,000 others. The PMOI/MEK has published the names of 466 killed protesters.

Iran protests: Mahabad (مهاباد) resisting despite heavy crackdown by regime security forces
On Sunday, November 20, 2022, the city of Mahabad saw another day of intense anti-regime protests. Revolutionary Guards units were dispatched to shoot at protesters. The regime dispatched helicopters to crack down to control the situation. But protesters stood their ground and surrounded a local police station. Protests continue despite heavy internet disruption. The regime has unleashed a heavy wave of suppression in Iran’s Kurdish cities. But the people continue to resist.
Iran protests: Cities across Iran rise in solidarity with Mahabad (مهاباد)
On Sunday, November 20, 2022, Iran’s regime engaged in a military invasion of the Kurdish city of Mahabad (مهاباد).
The regime used helicopters, assault rifles, and heavy weaponry against unarmed citizens. The mass crackdown comes one day after regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei called for repression on protests.
The people of Mahabad held their ground and resisted against the regime’s repressive forces.At the same time, people in other cities across Iran held protest rallies in solidarity with Mahabad, including Tehran, Karaj, Dashti, Kamyaran, and Saqqez.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of the NCRI, sent a message about the nationwide uprising of the Iranian people and said: “I urge the UNSC, EU, to take immediate measures to stop the ruling regime’s massacre of the people of Mahabad, including comprehensive political—economic sanctions, blacklisting of IRGC and MOIS, and expulsion of their operatives and agents.”
She added: “Having failed to stop Iran protests, the regime has marshalled armored vehicles and helicopters. Inaction towards this war crime and crime against humanity by a terrorist, warmongering regime not only tramples human rights but jeopardizes world peace and security.”
Mrs. Rajavi in another message said: “They must refer the dossier of the clerical regime’s human rights violations to the UN Security Council and the Special International Tribunal, including the atrocious murder of more than 50 children and teenagers by Khamenei’s IRGC.“
