Iran: Jailed protester Ebrahim Rigi (ابراهیم ریگی) murdered after release

On February 22, authorities at Zahedan’s Police Station no. 12 abducted Ebrahim Rigi (ابراهیم ریگی) and beat him to death.
Rigi, 24, was one of the many civilians who had been arrested in Zahedan during the nationwide protests
He had been recently released on bail. The police claimed that they found him dead in his car.
But the coroner’s office have confirmed that Rigi was killed as a result of being beaten after being taken to the police station.
According to Baluch activists, the police arrested Rigi shortly after his release because he had resumed his political activities.
On September 30, security forces opened fire on a peaceful protest in Zahedan, killing more than 100
The event became known as Zahedan’s “Bloody Friday”.
Rigi, a physician, was among the voluntary medics who helped the many wounded in the event
He was arrested a few days later in a hospital in Zahedan.
In his last Instagram post, Rigi had written, “I didn’t know that helping the wounded and criticizing the killing of our brothers and sisters is a sin…”.
“Not even death, not even execution mattered to me because I have died many times in this land…”.

Regarding the brutal torture and murder of Rigi, Amnesty International said, “The death in custody of 24-year-old Baluchi protester Ebrahim Rigi, on 22 February, amid evidence pointing to torture shows once again the Iranian authorities’ horrific assault on the right to life.”
