WASHINGTON, DC – On Tuesday, April 27, 2021, on the eve of President Biden’s address to the joint session of Congress and as the Vienna nuclear talks resume, 225 members of the U.S. House of Representatives presented a resolution sponsored by bipartisan lawmakers, urging a U.S. Iran policy based on ending the Iranian regime’s terrorism and its egregious human rights violations, and supporting the Iranian people’s struggle for a free Iran.

The House resolution is supported by bipartisan members of the House committees of Foreign Affairs, Armed Services, Homeland Security, and Select Committee on Intelligence, among the sponsors.
This timely resolution offers the sense of the U.S. House of Representatives on Iran policy in the first 100 days of the Biden Administration.

H. Res. 118 expresses “support for the Iranian people’s desire for a democratic, secular, and nonnuclear Republic of Iran” and condemns “violations of human rights and state-sponsored terrorism by the Iranian Government.”

The House resolution makes no mention of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action(JCPOA), but it does imply agreement with the notion that US policy toward the Iranian regime has been too narrowly focused on the nuclear program and should broaden to include more pressure on matters related to human rights and terrorism.
