British Committee for Iran Freedom: International Community Must Act to Stop Indiscriminate Attacks on Iranian Kurdish Population
The full text of the statement is as follows:
The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) strongly condemns the regime in Iran for firing rockets and shelling areas accommodating Iranian refugees and Kurdish groups in the Iraqi Kurdistan region. The reports reveal attacks on civilians and innocent people, in violation of international law and the ceasefire between Iran and Iraq (UN Security Council Resolution 598). The Supreme Leader, Khamenei, also commander-in-chief of the regime’s armed forces, is directly responsible for these attacks.
These rocket attacks are the other side of regime’s repressive measures at home, including increasing executions and widespread arrests throughout Iran, which reached an unprecedented level on the 33rd anniversary of the massacre of 30,000 political prisoners in July and August. The domestic repression has been intensified since the appointment of Ebrahim Raisi as the regime’s new President.
The regime in Iran, which is unable to counter social discontent and uprisings across the country, is extremely fearful, and is resorting to violence to prevent the spread of popular protests and uprisings, including in Iranian Kurdistan.
The British Committee for Iran Freedom (BCFIF) calls on the United Nations, the UK Government, the US and the President of the European Union, as well as the Governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to condemn these aggressive and repressive attacks and to take the necessary measures at the international level to stop them.
