Rebellion at Qezel Hesar Prison | October 17, 2022

Karaj—October 17, 2022: On Monday, the first reports came from Qezel Hesar prison in Karaj. Reports indicate that inmates at the prison were chanting “Death to Khamenei!” in the prison yard. Sirens and gunshots could be heard from outside.

At around 10 am local time, 50 prison guards were stationed on the rooftops of the prison’s buildings with firearms and were aiming at the inmates. The prison warden was seen on the rooftop, shooting birdshots with a shotgun. This incident comes merely two days after a massive crackdown in Evin Prison, in which the regime has killed and injured numerous prisoners.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the president-elect of the NCRI sent a message referring to the news of Qezal Hesar prison, and said: “After the deaths and injury of many prisoners and political prisoners at Evin, sirens and aerial shots were heard in Qezel Hesar on Monday morning. Prisoners chanted, “death to Khamenei,” in support of the uprising. The lives of inmates, esp. political prisoners, are at risk.”

Mrs. Rajavi in another message referring to the additional news about the attack on Evin prison, said: “Evin political prisoners hit by bullets and severely bleeding have been left without treatment. Political Prisoners are being transferred from Evin to other prisons and unknown places. To prevent human catastrophe, I urge the UN, EU to take urgent action, send an international delegation.”
