Dr. Alejo Vidál Quadras, former Vice President of the European Parliament, convened a highly anticipated press conference in Madrid on February 23, 2024, addressing both Spanish and international journalists. This marked his initial public appearance subsequent to a recent terrorist attack directed at him at a media club in the Spanish capital.

In his statement, Dr. Vidál Quadras promptly classified the assault against him as a clear act of terrorism. He directly implicated the Iranian regime, alleging its orchestration of the attack and condemning its involvement in terrorist actions beyond its borders.

Referring to Iran as a “religious dictatorship” and a “terrorist regime,” Dr. Vidál Quadras accused Tehran of sheltering terrorists and aiding their evasion of justice. He highlighted past incidents, such as the assassinations of two representatives of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Dr. Kazem Rajavi in Geneva in 1990 and Mohammad-Hossein Naghdi in Rome in 1993, as well as terrorist acts like the targeting of the Jewish AMIA centers in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The former European Parliament official urged decisive action from the European Union, advocating for the expulsion of the regime’s diplomats and the severance of diplomatic ties. He stressed the importance of denying visas to regime operatives seeking entry into Europe and called for the expulsion of all regime intelligence agents.

Dr. Vidál Quadras emphasized the resilience of the Iranian Resistance, noting their annual gatherings that draw tens of thousands of Iranians and hundreds of foreign dignitaries. He recounted a foiled bombing plot in Albania in 2018, aimed at disrupting an annual Resistance conference.

The press conference took a chilling turn when Dr. Vidál Quadras disclosed that he was targeted by the Iranian regime, as evidenced by his inclusion on a blacklist published by Iran in October 2022. He firmly rejected the notion of being merely a victim of criminal activity, asserting the inherently political nature of his case.

Highlighting the nefarious activities of Iranian embassies across Europe, Dr. Vidál Quadras called for a reassessment of any dialogue and engagement policies with the regime. Instead, he advocated for support of the NCRI and the Resistance forces, who are actively advocating for democracy and gender equality within Iran.

In a defiant declaration, Dr. Vidál Quadras affirmed his unwavering dedication to the cause of freedom and human rights despite the attempts on his life. He pledged to intensify his efforts and encouraged others to join him in the struggle against tyranny and oppression.

The press conference concluded with resounding applause from attendees, underscoring the significance of Dr. Vidál Quadras’ courageous stance against the Iranian regime’s reign of terror.
