In Memory of Alireza Golipour: A Symbol of Resistance and Sacrifice

Alireza Golipour

Alireza Golipour, a political prisoner and supporter of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Tehran due to heart disease. His death came three years after his release in 2021, following nine years of imprisonment that had severely impacted his health.

Golipour’s journey of resistance began when he was a Ph.D. student in electrical engineering. He was first arrested in 2009, and then again in 2012. Following his second arrest, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for supporting the PMOI and exposing the nuclear activities of the Iranian regime.

During his incarceration, Golipour faced severe health challenges, including lung cancer, continuous nose bleeds, and epilepsy. Despite his critical health condition, he was repeatedly denied proper medical care.

Despite the hardships of imprisonment, Golipour’s spirit remained unbroken. In 2016, he sent a powerful message from prison to the Free Iran Rally, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to the cause of freedom in Iran. He wrote, “With a heart full of longing for you, a cheerful heart from your companionship, and standing tall for your cause, I shout loudly: As a younger brother, I stand firm.”

Alireza Golipour’s life and death serve as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for human rights and democracy in Iran. His resilience in the face of extreme adversity and his dedication to exposing the Iranian regime’s activities have made him a symbol of resistance for many Iranians seeking freedom and justice.

As we remember Alireza Golipour, his memory and struggle continue to inspire thousands of Resistance Units across Iran and the great family of the Iranian Resistance worldwide. His story stands as a testament to the courage of those who risk everything in the pursuit of freedom and democracy in Iran.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, shared the following message about the passing of political prisoner Alireza Golipour:

“Salute to Alireza Golipour, the PMOI political prisoner who, as he himself wrote, ‘stood firm in his positions until the end of his life’ and ascended with dignity. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family and friends, wishing them patience and fortitude. Be proud of Alireza, for his perseverance serves as a model for freedom-loving students and the intellectual elite of our homeland in their struggle against a regime of ignorance and tyranny.”
