Iran, Week 58: No to Executions Tuesdays

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the “No to Executions Tuesdays” campaign marked its 58th consecutive week, expanding its reach to 38 prisons across Iran with the recent inclusion of Miandoab Prison in East Azerbaijan Province. Inmates participating in this campaign engage in weekly hunger strikes every Tuesday to protest the Iranian regime’s extensive use of the death penalty.

The campaign’s latest statement highlights a disturbing surge in executions: 85 individuals were executed between February 19 and March 3, 2025, with at least 53 executions occurring in the past week alone. Among those executed were 24 Kurdish and Baluch citizens, and a public hanging took place in Esfarayen. These actions, especially as Nowruz approaches, have plunged numerous families into mourning and are perceived as attempts by the regime to instill fear and maintain control through repression and violence.

Members of the “No to Execution Tuesdays” Campaign will be on hunger strike on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in the following 38 prisons:
