Eighty-Three Weeks of “No to Execution Tuesdays”: Hunger Strikes in 50 Prisons Across Iran

83rd Week of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign in Iran - August 26, 2025
83rd Week of the No to Execution Tuesdays Campaign in Iran – August 26, 2025

On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the “No to Execution Tuesdays” campaign reached its 83rd consecutive week. Prisoners in 50 facilities across Iran joined the protest through hunger strikes. This week, Dehdasht Prison became the newest participant—a stark reminder that no part of Iran is safe from the shadow of execution.

Expansion of the 83rd Week Protest to 50 Prisons

The campaign’s latest statement denounced the ongoing surge in executions. It declared that:

  • Execution offers no solution.

  • Execution violates the fundamental right to life.

  • Execution serves only to instill fear and entrench political repression.

Shocking Rise in Executions

In the Iranian month of Mordad (July–August), 166 people were executed. Within just one week, 31 more—including one woman—were hanged. Two executions, in Kordkuy and Beyram Larestan, were carried out publicly. These actions aim to intimidate society and normalize violence.

Prisoners in Dehdasht joined the protest in its 83rd week. Their participation highlights that the threat of execution touches every corner of the country.

Erasure of Memory and International Condemnation

Another alarming event has sparked outrage: the conversion of Section 41 of Behesht Zahra Cemetery into a parking lot. This site holds the graves of thousands of political prisoners from the 1980s. Amnesty International condemned the move, calling it an insult to victims’ families and an attempt to erase evidence of state crimes.

Global Call to Action

The campaign urges all international organizations, human rights defenders, and people of conscience to oppose this cycle of death and amplify the voices of Iranians protesting executions.

List of 50 Participating Prisons

As part of the 83rd week, hunger strikes took place in these prisons:
