84th Week of “No to Execution Tuesdays” in 51 Prisons Across Iran
The human rights campaign No to Execution Tuesdays” entered its 84th week on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, with coordinated protests and hunger strikes across 51 prisons throughout Iran. This growing movement continues to challenge widespread state executions and advocate for justice, dignity, and the abolition of the death penalty.
Langaroud Prison in Qom Joins the National Campaign
This week, a group of prisoners from Langaroud Prison in Qom joined the campaign for the first time, expanding the network of participating prisons. Their involvement reflects the growing resistance within the prison system and the broader Iranian society against state violence and executions.
Remembering the Executed: 40 Days Since Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani
This week’s statement coincides with the fortieth day since the executions of Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani, two political prisoners whose burial sites remain hidden from their families. The campaign denounces this cruel practice, describing it as enforced disappearance and psychological torture for grieving families.
In a powerful message, the campaign stated:
“The widespread and merciless executions taking place every week in our country are not only a blatant violation of fundamental human rights, but also evidence of bloody repression aimed at preserving power through fear and silencing voices of freedom and justice.”
Escalating Executions Highlight Human Rights Crisis
According to this week’s report, 39 executions occurred in just the past week—including two women—bringing the total to 704 executions since the beginning of the Iranian year 1404 (March 21, 2025). These alarming figures underscore the systematic nature of capital punishment in Iran and its use as a political tool of repression.
Standing Firm Against Death Penalty in Iran
Despite the regime’s brutality, the campaign reaffirms its commitment to giving voice to prisoners, grieving families, and all who seek freedom and justice. It emphasizes that the memories of the executed live on—not buried in “the soil of oblivion,” but alive “in the hearts of every free Iranian,” fueling hope for a future free from executions and violence.
