Political Prisoner Khosrow Rahnama Warns of a New 1988 Massacre in Iran

Message from Political Prisoner Khosrow Rahnama
Message from Political Prisoner Khosrow Rahnama

Khosrow Rahnama is a political prisoner and one of the steadfast detainees of the 1980s, who spent seven years in prison during that decade. He was rearrested in Tehran during the Chaharshanbeh Suri celebrations on March 12, 2023. To date, Rahnama has endured a total of eleven and a half years of imprisonment.

From inside Ghezel Hesar Prison, he has issued the following message, warning of the repetition of the 1988 massacre, condemning ongoing executions, and calling on international institutions and human rights organizations to urgently intervene to save the lives of prisoners facing execution in Iran.

Message from Political Prisoner Khosrow Rahnama

The Repetition of the 1988 Massacre

The killing and massacre of political forces, which began immediately after the stolen revolution of 1979 by the clerical regime, is continuing today—perhaps on an even broader scale and with greater speed than under the Shah. This medieval regime has no concern other than its own survival and the preservation of its system.

The essence of the savage executions carried out in prisons is precisely this. Likewise, the essence of appeasement with the West is nothing but the same.

In contrast, love for the people and a vision of a bright future for this land are surging within the resistance and the organized forces (the Resistance Units) that are engaged in battle against this regime.

Today, hope for the future and for an end to all the oppressions of the clerical regime—which completed the crimes of the treacherous Shah and stole the fruits of the anti-monarchical revolution through blood and sacrifice—has been embodied in this organized force.

Our fellow imprisoned comrades, the martyred Mojahedin Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, along with other freedom fighters, and tens of thousands of steadfast martyrs for freedom who were executed by this regime, testify to the anti-human and backward nature of this regime.

As the world grows smaller and human connections deepen, and as people share common pain, the causes and consequences of war and appeasement become clear to all. This inevitably recalls the appeasement of Hitler, who continued massacring prisoners in the camps until the very last moment.

Here, I urgently appeal to international bodies and human rights organizations to save the lives of my six dear brothers and fellow prisonersVahid Bani-Amerian, Babak Alipour, Mohammad Taghavi, Pouya Ghobadi, Shahrokh Daneshvar-Kar, and Abolhassan Montazer—imprisoned in Ghezel Hesar Prison, as well as Javad Vafaei-Sani, held in Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad, and other prisoners awaiting execution.

Revolution and overthrow are the task of the Resistance Units and the people of Iran.

Death to the oppressor, whether Shah or Supreme Leader.
