In a bold act of solidarity from behind bars, 419 political detainees across 63 prisons in Iran—joined by 323 recently freed activists—released a powerful joint statement honoring the 60th anniversary of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Smuggled out of Tehran’s Evin Prison, Karaj’s Ghezel Hesar, and facilities in Tabriz, Isfahan, Shiraz, Ahvaz, among others, this message underscores the unyielding spirit of resistance that persists despite decades of brutal repression.
The statement celebrates the “heroic people of Iran,” the Resistance Units, and the courageous youth across the nation. It emphasizes that the PMOI remains the heart of the democratic opposition, steadfast even under the harshest conditions.
Prisoners—some who’ve endured over 20 years behind bars, others newly arrested, and some on death row—joined forces to declare: “We pledge to God, the people, and the PMOI to remain steadfast and militant… We will not take a single step back… until our last breath.”
By emerging from prisons across 63 cities, their coordinated declaration belies the regime’s attempts to marginalize the opposition. In their words, the greatest threat to the clerical dictatorship is embodied in a single name: the PMOI.
Rejecting both the religious regime and the former monarchy as two forms of tyranny, they highlighted a “unholy alliance” that endures to this day. Quoting a Khamenei-linked faction that described monarchist activity as “an opportunity” for the regime, they underscored the importance of democratic transition over power struggles.
Concluding with a vivid metaphor, the prisoners likened the PMOI’s founders to those who planted a sapling six decades ago that has now become a mighty tree—one poised to uproot the foundations of tyranny. This powerful testament from within Iran’s prisons is a clear sign that the fight for a free, democratic, and secular republic remains vibrant and resolute.
