Asia’s oil refiners rush to deal with U.S.-China trade war, looming Iran sanctions

SINGAPORE

Asian oil refiners are racing to secure crude supplies in anticipation of an escalating trade war between the United States and China, and as Washington plans tough sanctions against Iran aimed at shutting the country out of oil markets.

That double whammy is prompting Asian refiners to move swiftly, with South Korea leading the way. Under pressure from Washington, Seoul has halted all orders of Iranian oil, according to sources, even as it braces from spillover effects from the U.S.-China tit-for-tat on trade.

Netherlands expels two Iranian embassy staff: Dutch intelligence service

The Netherlands has expelled two Iranian embassy staff, the Dutch Intelligence service AIVD said on Friday.

“We can confirm that the Netherlands has expelled two persons accredited to the Iranian embassy,” a spokesperson for Dutch intelligence said. “We will not provide any further information.”

This week, Belgium arrested an Iranian couple suspected of plotting to bomb the annual “Free Iran” rally held by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

Saudi Royal Air Defense Forces Intercept Ballistic Missile Launched by Iran-backed Houthi Militia

The spokesman for the coalition forces “coalition to support the legitimacy in Yemen,” Colonel Turki al-Maliki said that at 7:17 pm (19.17), the air defense forces of the alliance spotted the launch of a ballistic missile by the Iran-backed Houthi militia within the territory of Yemen from Imran, towards the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).

Colonel al-Maliki added that the missile was in the direction of the city (Jazan) and was deliberately launched to target civilian and populated areas.

NIAC Welcomes Appointment of New Iran Human Rights Rapporteur

The National Iranian American Council, issued a statement welcoming the appointment of Dr. Javaid Rehman as the next UN Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in Iran.

Mr. Jamal Abdi, Vice President for Policy of the NIAC stated that, “The appointment of Dr. Rehman to serve as the next Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran will ensure the continuation of important and neutral work aimed at holding Iran’s government accountable to its international human rights obligations.”
