Iran Truckers’ Strike hit the 14th day
Sunday marked the 14th day of truck driver’s strike in dozens of major cities in Iran. These cities include, Tabriz, Maragheh, Urumieh, Isfahan, Zarrin-shahr, Najaf-Abad, Shahr-e Kord, Lordegan, Farrokh-shahr, Jajarm, Ahvaz, Khorram-shahr, Behbahan, Mamasani, marvdahst, Zarghan, Kerman, Kermanshah, Yasouj, Gargan, Khorram-Abad, Chaloos, Saveh, Arak, Bandar-Abbas and Yazd.
Truck drivers were on strike at Ghazvin Terminal. More than a thousand trucks were seen parked at Mobarakeh Terminal joining the nationwide strike.
Iran protests continue Sunday in new cities
Iran, August 5, 2018 – Tehran and a number of other cities including Kazerun, Bandar Abass, Isfahan, Abhar, Shush and Qazvin have been scenes of strikes and protests on Saturday and Sunday.
In Tehran, people and especially the youth are on attack and retreat with the repressive anti-riot forces. They also set fire to the trash bins in Enghelab Blvd in order to confront the security forces.
Locals in Bandar Abbas, Iran’s main port city in the south, rallied outside the state TV/radio station chanting anti-regime slogans. During the past three nights, the protesters rallied outside the city’s main bazaar and held night demonstrations.
In Isfahan, the home appliance market saw store-owners close their stores for the second consecutive day. The store-owners are protesting poor living conditions, high prices and slow sales in the market.
The brave youths of Abhar demonstrated on Saturday parallel to other cities’ protests, chanting anti-regime slogans. The cities of Tehran, Karaj, Qom, and Shiraz were the scene of major rallies on Saturday night.
Employees of the Khuzestan Sugar Cane Co. in the city of Haft Tappeh held a protest rally on Sunday for the third consecutive day. Holding their protest outside the company manager’s office these employees were demanding due paychecks and other pensions.
Iran holds ex-central bank deputy for alleged economic crimes
Iran has arrested seven people including a former deputy central bank governor and five foreign exchange dealers for alleged economic crimes, the judiciary said on Sunday as the country prepares to face a return of US sanctions.
Washington will first reimpose sanctions on Iran.s purchase of US dollars, its trade in gold and precious metals and its dealings with metals, coal and industrial-related software.
The United States has told countries they must halt imports of Iranian oil from early November or face US financial measures.
Girls under 10 got married in southwestern Iranian province
Girls under 10 got married in the southwestern Iranian province of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad over the past Iranian year.
Ali Mohammad Taghavi, general director of the National Statistics Registration Office in this province, announced that nine girls under 10 years of age had gotten married in the Iranian year 1396 (March 2017- March 2018) in the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province.
Homa was one of the two daughters of prominent Iranian human rights lawyer, Abdol-Fattah Soltani, who has been incarcerated for the past seven years for defending innocent victims of the clerical regime. He has been granted a temporary leave to be with his family at this time of great grief.
Soltani represented political prisoners and defended several controversial cases including the case of murdered Iranian-Canadian journalist Zahra Kazemi. After being arrested a couple of times in 2005 and 2009, Soltani received a 13-year prison sentence in 2011 and was banned for an additional 20 years from practicing law. Amnesty International designated him a prisoner of conscience and called him “one of the bravest human rights defenders in Iran.”
