The California Women’s Society for Democracy in Iran calls for accountability for the regime

The California Women’s Society for Democracy in Iran condemns the Iranian regime’s brutal crackdown on the Iranian people’s uprising and calls on the international community to take immediate action.

The clerical regime ruling Iran has deprived the Iranian people of freedom in the last 40 years and has responded to any protests with excessive violence. Yet, the Iranian people are tirelessly continuing their uprising to obtain their basic rights of freedom and democracy.

Following the nationwide uprising, which erupted on Friday, November 15, and quickly spread to more than 170 cities across Iran, the Iranian regime resorted to a brutal crackdown on the protesters who were asking for their basic rights. In addition, the regime imposed a blackout on internet to further increase violence against the people.

So far, more than 450 people have been killed, 4,000 wounded and more than 10,000 arrested. Since there is no news of the detainees’’ whereabouts and their loved ones are searching for them, we urge the international community and human rights organizations to conduct an independent investigation on the situation of detainees and to strongly condemn the brutal suppression of the Iranian people, particularly the women and youth.

The California Women’s Society for Democracy in Iran stands alongside the people of Iran to achieve freedom and democracy and echoes their demand of regime change in Iran. It also believes that the Mullahs’ regime has no legitimacy and all its authorities and agents should face justice for committing crimes against humanity.
