Bloody repression of a peaceful protest

The systematic violation of human rights in Iran

On the occasion of World Human Rights Day, we condemen the violation of human rights in Iran perpetrated by the bloody crackdown on demonstrators and the massacre of political prisoners.

More than 4,000 people, including 94 women and several minors, were hanged during Rouhani’s presidency. During the five days of repression in November, more than 600 people were killed, 4,000 wounded and more than 12,000 arrested. Protesters protested against repression and high prices.

The time has come for the international community, especially the European Union, to side with the people of Iran. European governments must immediately condemn arrests and massacres of prisoners.

Background

Twenty-five days have passed since the nationwide Iran protests began for regime change. A major gasoline price hike triggered protests on November 15. But the protests quickly turned political and targeted the entirety of the religious dictatorship ruling Iran, led by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani.

The protesters are demanding the overthrow of the regime with all its factions and the corrupt repressive forces, including the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). On day 23 of the protests, reports by the network of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI), also known as the Mujahedin-e-Khalq (MEK), inside Iran indicate demonstrations have taken place in more than 190 cities. More than 1,000 protesters have been killed, 4,000 wounded and 12,000 arrested during the Iran protests.
