Belgian Committee of Parliamentarians and Mayors for a Democratic Iran, Supported the Protests in Isfahan

According to the website of the Iranian Community In Belgium, the Belgian Committee of Parliamentarians and Mayors for a Democratic Iran, in a statement, supported the uprising of the people and farmers of Isfahan.

The full text of this report is as follows:

Water crisis sparks new round of protests in Isfahan and other Iranian provinces

Iran’s water crisis has worsened sharply in recent years as people have been unable to exercise their right to clean and safe water, which has led to several protests, including in Isfahan. For the past few days, Isfahan farmers have been protesting against the ten-year water crisis, but instead of finding solutions, the brutal Iranian regime has again responded with bullets and opened fire on protesters.

Farmers occupied the Zayandeh Rood River, which has been largely drained in recent years. They have set up tents in the middle of the river and have been protesting for several days with cries of “Shame on Khamenei, leave the country alone”. On Friday, November 19, 2021, on the twelfth day of a sit-in by impoverished farmers in Isfahan, tens of thousands of people demonstrated in support of the farmers’ protest against the water shortage and the regime’s plundering policy. Clerical who led to the draining of the Zayandeh Rood River and the destruction of agriculture and livestock.

Environmental researchers say the authorities have not taken adequate measures to deal with the crisis. After 42 years of looting, the regime’s disastrous policies have spawned an extreme water crisis. The Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) have built hundreds of dams, mainly for the extraction of their nuclear facilities, without any scientific scrutiny. Underground tunnels have been built in the Zayandeh Rood River in Isfahan in order to divert the flow of the river and route it to military industries and other looting projects. As a result, there is now a risk not only of the Zayandeh Rood River drying up, but also of the underground water beds drying up. And this knowing that the plains of Isfahan and Khorasan are sinking by 12 cm per year.

We, the signatories of the Belgian Committee of Parliamentarians and Burgomasters for a Democratic Iran, ask the government:

— An immediate condemnation of the brutal violence of the Iranian regime against the demonstrators in Isfahan and neighboring provinces

— The consideration and recognition of the Iranian people’s call for democracy and freedom

— We ask the Belgian government and the international community to take serious and effective measures to ensure the release of those arrested during the demonstrations.

As long as the mullahs remain in power, poverty, unemployment, and disease will increase every day in Iran. Because the government denies people basic needs like water, electricity, bread, affordable housing and vaccines, and instead invests heavily in regional terror and its missile program.

With our solidarity, greetings
