Nobel Prize-Laureate Professor Richard Roberts Visits Ashraf 3 and Meets With Maryam Rajavi

Sunday, June 26, 2022: Professor Richard Roberts, a prominent scientist and one of the most important contemporary scientific figures, visited Ashraf 3 and met with Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

Professor Roberts is a British biochemist and molecular biologist. He was awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and was the discoverer of the mosaic structure of genes.

In meeting with Professor Richard Roberts, views were exchanged on human rights in Iran, and support for the struggle of the Iranian people and Resistance against religious fascism.

After Qassem Soleimani and Nouri al-Maliki’s criminal attack on the Mojahedin in Ashraf on 28 and 29 July 2009, with 13 martyrs and more than 500 wounded, Professor Roberts was one of the first international scholars to come to the aid of the MEK members in Ashraf.
Richard Roberts has supported the Mojahedin 22 times in various attacks and turning points in their struggle for the liberation of Iran.
Professor Roberts is a signatory to the Joint Statement of 43 Nobel Laureates in 2009, initiated by Elie Wiesel, the late Holocaust survivor and UN Ambassador for Peace, in condemnation of the Velayat-e Faqih regime (religious dictatorship ruling Iran) and support of the uprising of the Iranian people.

Mrs. Rajavi and the PMOI members welcome Professor Richard Roberts, a prominent scientist, humanitarian, and freedom-lover of contemporary times in Ashraf-3, appreciating his continuous, unsparing defense of the PMOI/MEK and Iranian Resistance for freedom.

They appreciated Professor Roberts’ distinguished scientific and humanitarian status and his continued and unwavering defense of the PMOI/MEK and the Iranian Resistance.

Addressing Professor Roberts, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the NCRI president-elect said: “Dear Professor Roberts, we and the Iranian people will remember this visit because of your distinguished scientific career, your support for the Iranian people’s uprisings, and your sincere and heartfelt defense of the MEK in Ashraf and Liberty”.

Mrs. Rajavi continued,“No force in the world could stop the progress of science and freedom. Science and freedom are the two sides of the same coin that seeks the liberation of the human race from determinism, blind destiny, and restrictive social compulsions”.
Our Resistance has been under the pressure of torture, massacre, and demonization to abandon its beliefs and positions and accept that freedom will never come. But we have pledged to make freedom flourish throughout Iran with our life and soul!
Mrs. Rajavi added, “The mullahs impose the reactionary laws of the previous millennia on the people, including legal and judicial matters. But they use the latest scientific and technological advances to preserve their rule and to build atomic bombs and missiles”.

Sir Richard J. Roberts, in the gathering with MEK members in the Ashraf 3 delivered a speech and said: “What I have done has been tiny by comparison with the efforts that you have put in, by the courage that you have shown, by your firm defense of freedom, by your desire to set up a true democracy in Iran. I think no one could walk through the museum as I did this morning without understanding the trials and tribulations that you and your colleagues, your friends, and families have been through. I was really moved to tears, but I tried hard to maintain my composure when I could. It was really a wonderful experience and I believe it is something that should be made more widely available to the rest of the world.”

Professor Roberts added: “I hereby pledge that I will do everything possible to increase my own efforts to help you in any way that I can. I do have access to a large number of Nobel Laureates and I think the next letter that goes out, I will make sure that there are many many more supporters listed that can help bring your case before the general public. My firm hope, after walking through the museum this morning, was that in the not distant future, I could meet you all in Tehran or some other city in Iran.”
