At the behest of Gianna Gancia, an Italian Member of the European Parliament, a roundtable discussion convened to address issues pertaining to Iran and the ongoing struggle of its people for a democratic republic. The gathering welcomed various representatives from Iranian medical and specialist associations based in Italy.
Held within the confines of the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, the roundtable delved into recent developments involving the clerical regime’s purported trial of 104 members of the Iranian Resistance, including the entire People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). Participants underscored the escalating repression in Iran and stressed the imperative of backing Iran’s Resistance against terrorism and bellicosity.
MEP Gancia underscored the authoritarian grip of the Iranian regime, particularly its intensified repression against the Iranian populace in recent years since the 2022 uprising. She highlighted the absurdity of summoning 104 PMOI members for trial in Tehran, given the regime’s track record of violence against dissenters. The Italian MEP urged Europe to address such dire circumstances to support the Iranian people’s pursuit of freedom.
Ms. Gancia further asked this question to Dr. Yousef Lesani from the Free Iran Association in Italy that the dictatorship ruling Iran claims to have an independent judiciary and asked the Mojahedin to introduce their own lawyers to the court. Therefore, it is very important to clarify this matter.
Dr. Yousef Lesani said about the actions that Europe can take against such actions of the mullahs’ regime: “It is very important that we expose these regime’s reasons for prosecuting the Mojahedin to public opinion and expand international support for Iran’s resistance.” Such an action is a clear message that the violation of human rights and the support of terrorism are no longer tolerated and such a regime has no credibility to prosecute freedom fighters such as the People’s Mojahedin Organization.
Gancia also lauded the significant presence of women in Iran’s Resistance, expressing confidence in their eventual triumph. She praised NCRI President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi for her leadership, characterizing her as a capable and resolute figure with whom she had the privilege of meeting multiple times. Gancia reaffirmed her commitment to standing alongside Iranian women and all individuals resisting the oppressive regime.

Dr. Khosrow Nikzat, representing the Iranian Democratic Physicians and Pharmacists Association in Italy, criticized the regime’s portrayal of the PMOI as condemned terrorists. He highlighted the regime’s apprehension toward female leadership in uprisings, as evidenced during the 2022 events, and its endeavor to undermine the PMOI’s societal support through staged trials.

Regarding the staged trial, Esmail Mohaddes remarked, “The trial is nothing more than a theatrical display, underscoring the lack of judicial independence in Iran. The regime’s desperation is palpable as it seeks to quash domestic dissent and international support for the PMOI.”

Karamat Jehandarpoor shed light on the regime’s multifaceted strategy to suppress internal dissent, orchestrate terrorist acts against the PMOI, and exert pressure on European nations to curb their activities.
The event served as a platform to amplify the voices of those opposing the Iranian regime and to garner international support for their cause. As discussions drew to a close, participants reaffirmed their commitment to stand in solidarity with the Iranian people in their struggle for freedom and democracy.
