March 1, 2024, marked the convening of a significant conference titled “Resisting Tyranny, an Oppressive Judiciary, Combating State Terrorism.” The event featured Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), alongside several esteemed European and American political figures.

One notable participant was Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, the President of the International Committee in Search of Justice and former Vice-President of the European Parliament. His presence was particularly poignant as it marked his first public appearance at an NCRI event since surviving an assassination attempt orchestrated by the Iranian regime in November 2023.

Among the distinguished guests were Peter Altmaier, former Minister of Economy and former member of the German Federal Parliament; Louis Freeh, former Director of the FBI; Ambassador Robert Joseph, former Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security; Stanislav Pavlovschi, former Minister of Justice of Moldova and former Judge at the European Court of Human Rights; Struan Stevenson, former MEP and President of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iraq and co-founder of the International Committee In Search of Justice; Paulo Casaca, former Member of the European Parliament from Portugal; and Jean-François Legaret, Mayor of the 1st District of Paris.

During the conference, Mrs. Rajavi vehemently condemned the trial in absentia of over 100 Iranian Resistance members by the clerical regime. She underscored the trial’s violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international judicial standards, labeling it as a politically motivated conspiracy aimed at justifying terrorist actions in Europe and imposing restrictions on the Iranian Resistance, particularly targeting the People’s Mojahedin Organization (PMOI/MEK) members at Ashraf-3 in Albania. She highlighted the trial as a clear escalation of internal repression and terrorist aggression against the Iranian Resistance.

In her address, Mrs. Rajavi also emphasized the lack of legitimate jurisdiction in the regime’s Judiciary and its operation against the basic principles of the Independence of the Judiciary adopted by the UN General Assembly. She pointed out the inherent injustice and invalidity of all verdicts rendered by this corrupt apparatus over the past 45 years, shedding light on the complicity of all participants in the trial with the regime’s machinery of torture and execution.

Dr. Vidal-Quadras echoed Ms. Rajavi’s sentiments, asserting the regime’s trial as a desperate ploy amid the uprising of the Iranian people. He outlined the regime’s objectives, including intimidating support for the PMOI in Iran, paving the way for terrorist attacks in Europe, pressuring Albania to restrict PMOI members’ rights, and countering growing international recognition of the Iranian people’s struggle.

Dr. Vidal-Quadras underscored the importance of global recognition and support for the NCRI’s Ten-Points Plan, emphasizing its potential to usher in a true democracy in Iran.

Struan Stevenson emphasized the urgent need to address the Iranian regime’s oppressive actions and regional destabilization efforts. He highlighted the regime’s history of violence, including sponsoring terrorism and engaging in brutal human rights abuses. Stevenson called for international recognition of the Iranian people’s right to resist the regime and urged Western nations to cease appeasement policies.

Mr. Altmaier expressed solidarity with the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and democracy, condemning Tehran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons and its role in global oppression and terrorism. He called for international unity in supporting the Iranian people’s quest for freedom and democracy, emphasizing the need to stand against oppressive regimes worldwide.

Mr. Freeh commended Dr. Vidal-Quadras for his courage in the face of adversity and emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and supporting those fighting tyranny. Ambassador Joseph highlighted the regime’s history of terrorism, regional aggression, and human rights abuses, while Mr. Pavlovschi emphasized Iran’s failure to guarantee basic human rights and freedoms to its citizens.

Mr. Casaca hailed Dr. Vidal Quadras’ courage and resilience, emphasizing the significance of his survival as a blow to the oppressive regime. He raised concerns about the regime’s extensive infiltration campaign aimed at influencing decision-makers and public opinion in Western countries, urging the importance of safeguarding democratic institutions from foreign influence.

Jean-François Legaret reflected on the terrifying attack against Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras on November 9, 2023, highlighting its impact on their shared struggle against tyranny. He praised Dr. Vidal Quadras’ steadfast support for the PMOI and the NCRI, emphasizing his crucial role in advocating for their cause. Mr. Legaret expressed gratitude to Amparo, Dr. Vidal Quadras’ wife, for her unwavering support, celebrating their resilience as a symbol of hope and courage in the face of oppression.

In conclusion, the conference served as a platform for prominent figures to denounce the Iranian regime’s oppressive tactics and advocate for the Iranian people’s right to freedom and democracy. It underscored the necessity of international solidarity and support in confronting authoritarian regimes and upholding human rights globally.
