Comprehensive Resolution Calls for Urgent Action
In a significant move, the Belgian Senate has unanimously passed a resolution addressing the dire human rights situation in Iran. The resolution, spanning over 4,000 words, extensively covers the Iranian regime’s egregious human rights abuses, including the massacre of 750 protesters during the 2022 uprising.
The resolution aligns with the Ten-Point Plan proposed by Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and calls for:
1. Urgent measures to save the lives of thousands of prisoners, especially political prisoners at risk of execution.
2. Holding Iranian regime leaders accountable for four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
3. Supporting the right of the Iranian people to resist the oppressive regime of the mullahs and to establish a democratic republic separate from religion.
4. Designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
Calls for EU Action and Solidarity
The resolution urges the European Union to demand the Iranian regime abolish the death penalty, ban all forms of torture, and prohibit the execution of individuals under 18 years of age. It also calls on European governments to expand the current list of individuals and organizations banned from traveling to the EU and whose assets are frozen, to include anyone responsible for human rights violations and freedom of expression.
Furthermore, the resolution implores European governments to unequivocally condemn the sentences issued against Dr. Ahmadreza Jalali and demand his immediate and unconditional release, along with all EU citizens unjustly imprisoned as a result of Iran’s diplomatic hostage-taking.
Message from Maryam Rajavi
Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, commended the members of the Belgian Senate for their resolution, stating that it “not only demonstrates loyalty to universal democratic values and human rights but also represents a principled policy crucial for peace and security in the Middle East and around the world.” She also expressed that the resolution serves to encourage the Iranian people, especially the youth and women, in their ongoing struggle for freedom.
