In a resolute stance, the European Parliament passed a comprehensive resolution condemning the Iranian regime’s actions and calling for decisive measures against the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The resolution, adopted with a significant majority, addressed various critical issues, including human rights violations, terrorism, attacks on Israel, and the need for de-escalation.

On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted a motion calling for the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) to be included on the list of designated terrorist organizations. The motion garnered 357 votes in favor, 20 against, and 58 abstentions in Strasbourg’s plenary chamber.

The European Parliament strongly condemned Iran’s severe human rights abuses and reiterated its support for blacklisting the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Additionally, the resolution condemned the IRGC for a terrorist attack and ongoing hostage-taking policies. MEPs expressed firm support for expanding existing EU sanctions against Iran, including sanctions on Iran’s supply of drones and missiles to other countries, emphasizing the destabilizing role of the IRGC in the region.

A day earlier, on April 24, The European Parliament held a formal session, where members discussed the urgent need to adopt a resolution condemning the warmongering regime in Iran and designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. The session was attended by Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.

During the session, several members of the European Parliament expressed their strong condemnation of the Iranian regime’s actions, describing it as the “head of the snake of war and terror” in the region and a “global threat.” Some MEPs called for the European Union to take decisive action, including listing the IRGC as a terrorist organization and recognizing the democratic opposition led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), and her Ten-Point Plan.

Furthermore, the resolution highlighted the importance of respecting diplomatic immunity and urged all parties to exercise restraint and de-escalate tensions. It also called for the designation of Hezbollah as a terrorist organization and emphasized the need for Iran to comply with the JCPOA (nuclear deal) and cease its practice of hostage-taking. The resolution welcomed the launch of the EU Naval Force Operation ASPIDES to safeguard freedom of navigation off the coast of Yemen and urged Iran to release captured European crew members.

The Polish MEP Ryszard Czarnecki concluded, “It’s high time to make Khamenei, the head of that snake, pay the price for making these wars. The European Union must immediately put IRGC on its terrorist list. We need to support the PMOI Resistance Units inside Iran and recognize their right to fight against the regime.”

Lukas Mandl, a Member of the European Parliament from Austria, pointed out that Tehran’s aggression is not limited to using proxies like Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis but also includes direct involvement in conflicts in the region.

This strong resolution by the European Parliament underscores the growing concerns over Iran’s actions and the urgent need for international measures to address the escalating tensions in the region.
