Saxony State Parliament Voices Strong Support for Iran’s Democratic Resistance

A majority of lawmakers in Germany’s Saxony State Parliament have released a powerful declaration in support of the Iranian people’s ongoing fight for democracy and their organized resistance movement. The statement denounces widespread human rights violations committed by the ruling clerical regime in Iran and urges international support for a democratic transition led by Iranians themselves.

The declaration is backed by influential figures including six state ministers, two deputy speakers, three party leaders, five deputy faction leaders, and three committee chairs or vice-chairs. It calls for a fundamental reorientation of Western policy toward Iran—centered not on appeasement, but on human rights and solidarity with the Iranian population and their resistance efforts.

The lawmakers specifically condemn the Iranian regime’s alarming increase in executions, with over 1,000 carried out in 2024 alone. They also criticize the so-called “Hijab and Chastity Law” as a means of systemic repression under the guise of religious enforcement. In stark contrast, they highlight the opposition movement’s principles of rejecting forced hijab, religious compulsion, and authoritarian rule, aligning with the “No to Executions” campaign gaining traction in Iran and abroad.

Declaring that no viable political path remains within the current regime, the statement calls on the international community to recognize the Iranian people’s right to overthrow the dictatorship. It also urges support for the Resistance Units affiliated with the MEK (People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran) in their efforts to challenge the regime’s armed forces, including a call to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Pointing to the weakening grip of regimes like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Assad in Syria, the declaration emphasizes that authoritarian powers in the region are not immune to collapse. The Saxony lawmakers warn against any policy of appeasement or economic engagement with Tehran, arguing such actions violate democratic values and risk political instability and economic fallout.

The statement also endorses the Ten-Point Plan of Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), which outlines a vision for a secular, democratic republic based on the separation of religion and state, equal rights for women, and universal human rights. It notes that in 2024 alone, over 4,000 parliamentarians and more than 100 former global leaders expressed their support for this democratic alternative.

In conclusion, the Saxony MPs call on governments worldwide to support this roadmap for a free and democratic Iran, framing it as the only viable path toward lasting peace and stability in the region.
