San Marino Lawmakers Support Iran’s Democratic Movement, Urge Action Against IRGC

In a strong gesture of solidarity with Iran’s democratic opposition, 39 out of 60 members of San Marino’s parliament have signed the “Iran 2025 Statement,” voicing their support for the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the Ten-Point Plan put forth by NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi. Among the signatories are five parliamentary group leaders and the heads of the Foreign Affairs and Judiciary Committees.

The declaration firmly supports the Iranian people’s quest for a secular and democratic republic, explicitly calling for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be designated as a terrorist organization.

Citing the nationwide protests that erupted in 2022, the MPs emphasized that the Iranian populace has clearly rejected both religious and monarchical dictatorships. They commended the bravery of Iranians—especially women and youth—who have spearheaded the demonstrations, often at great personal risk.

The statement criticizes ongoing appeasement policies and economic ties with the Iranian regime, warning that such engagement only empowers the IRGC, which controls over 70% of Iran’s economy and uses those resources to fuel repression and regional destabilization.

The lawmakers strongly condemned the regime’s escalating campaign of arbitrary arrests, torture, and executions—particularly those targeting members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), acknowledged in the statement as the principal organized resistance movement.

They endorsed Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan as a viable vision for Iran’s future, advocating for secular governance, gender equality, the abolition of the death penalty, and a non-nuclear Iran.

The statement ends with an urgent appeal to democratic nations to take firm action, including:

  • Officially designating the IRGC as a terrorist organization, and

  • Closing Iranian regime embassies involved in terrorism.

San Marino’s endorsement adds to the momentum of a growing international parliamentary movement pushing for an end to Tehran’s authoritarian rule and the global recognition of Iran’s democratic alternative.
