A significant majority in the Tasmanian State Parliament, including key figures such as the Speaker, the Deputy Opposition Leader, the Greens Leader, and multiple ministers, has issued a historic statement endorsing the democratic agenda of the Iranian Resistance. The declaration affirms support for Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan aimed at establishing a free and secular Iran, demands the official terrorist designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and recognizes the legitimacy of the PMOI-led Resistance Units in opposing the regime’s oppression.

Opening with grave concern about Iran’s dire human rights abuses, the statement highlights that over 1,000 executions occurred under the clerical regime in 2024 alone. It stresses that backing the Iranian people’s organized resistance is both morally imperative and strategically sound.

The lawmakers expressed deep alarm at the regime’s intensifying crackdown, noting that harsh punishments, including the recent death sentences of nine political prisoners linked to the PMOI, have failed to quell widespread dissent and have only fueled further resistance.

They underscored the right of the PMOI Resistance Units to defend themselves against the IRGC, which they condemned as the regime’s main tool of repression and a destabilizing force in the region. The parliamentarians called on democratic nations worldwide to formally recognize the IRGC as a terrorist organization.

Praising Mrs. Rajavi’s platform, the statement highlighted its rejection of compulsory religious rules, dictatorship, and gender inequality. The plan advocates for abolishing the death penalty, promoting religious freedom, and establishing a secular, non-nuclear republic in Iran. It portrays the Iranian opposition’s vision as a comprehensive roadmap for ending theocratic rule and building a pluralistic democracy.

Referencing a global movement, the Tasmanian lawmakers pointed to a June 2024 declaration supported by over 4,000 legislators and 100 former world leaders endorsing Maryam Rajavi’s goals. They noted that Iranians have decisively rejected both monarchy and theocracy through recent uprisings, demanding instead a democratic republic.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the escalating protests and Resistance activities within Iran and condemned the regime’s brutal attempts at suppression. It called on the Australian federal government and other democratic states to stand firmly with the Iranian people and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), aligning foreign policy with principles of justice, democracy, and human rights.
