Scottish Lawmakers Declare Support for Iranian Resistance and Democratic Change
A significant majority of the Scottish Parliament—including nine ministers and ten committee chairs—has issued a strong statement backing the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom. The declaration supports Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for a secular, democratic Iran and endorses the right of Iranians to resist the ruling theocratic regime, specifically calling for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be designated as a terrorist organization.
The signatories voiced deep concern over Iran’s deteriorating human rights situation, citing more than 1,000 executions in 2024 alone. They also condemned the regime’s repressive “Hijab and Chastity Law,” which they argue is designed to suppress dissent—particularly targeting women and youth, the leading forces in anti-regime protests since the 2022 uprising.
Emphasizing that the Iranian people have firmly rejected both monarchy and religious dictatorship, the statement calls for a complete shift in international policy—urging the world to engage with the Iranian opposition instead of appeasing the current regime. The MPs argue that international recognition of the Iranian people’s right to overthrow the regime is both morally right and strategically essential.
Drawing parallels with declining Iranian influence in the region—such as setbacks for Hezbollah and the weakening of the Assad regime—the statement warns that appeasement only empowers Iran’s oppressive institutions and advances its nuclear ambitions.
The declaration praises the MEK’s Resistance Units for their courage in standing up to the regime from within Iran and demands their right to resist be officially acknowledged. It strongly supports Rajavi’s democratic platform, which advocates for abolishing the death penalty, promoting gender equality, ensuring religious freedom, and establishing a non-nuclear, secular government.
This initiative by Scottish lawmakers reflects a growing international consensus. Just last month, over 4,000 legislators and more than 100 former world leaders publicly supported Rajavi’s roadmap. By joining this global call, Scottish MPs urge all democratic nations to back the Iranian people and their organized resistance—rather than placing faith in a regime they see as doomed to fall.
Their message is unequivocal: Resistance is a right, and democratic change in Iran is both a moral imperative and a strategic necessity.
