Argentine Lawmakers Back Iran’s Democratic Movement and Maryam Rajavi’s Vision for a Free Republic
In a strong gesture of international solidarity, a majority of lawmakers in Argentina’s Chamber of Deputies have voiced support for the Iranian people’s struggle for freedom and democracy. On June 30, 130 deputies from across all major political parties signed the “Iran 2025 Statement,” backing the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and its President-elect Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan for a secular, democratic, and non-nuclear Iran.
Among the signatories are three Vice Presidents of Parliament, 29 committee chairs—including those for Foreign Affairs and Defense—nine faction leaders, 21 Foreign Affairs Committee members, and several former high-ranking officials, including ministers and ex-speakers of parliament.

The statement calls for:
-
Designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity,
-
Recognizing the right of Iran’s Resistance Units to confront the IRGC,
-
Supporting the Iranian people’s right to replace the clerical regime with a democratic republic.
Argentine legislators framed their support as both a strategic and moral stance: “Standing with the Iranian people who seek regime change is not only a sound policy—it is a moral imperative.”
The declaration echoed slogans of Iran’s resistance movement: “No to compulsory hijab, no to compulsory religion, no to compulsory government,” and “No to executions.” It cited the 2022 nationwide protests and the widespread boycott of Iran’s sham elections as clear evidence of the people’s rejection of both monarchy and theocracy.
Highlighting severe repression, including the sentencing of nine political prisoners to death in 2024 for alleged support of the PMOI/MEK, the statement argued that peaceful avenues for change are closed, and the resistance’s right to fight must be acknowledged.
The lawmakers condemned Iran’s use of regional militias and proxy warfare, criticizing the regime’s reliance on Hezbollah and its “Hijab and Chastity” law as oppressive tools used to maintain control.
Referring to the collapse of Syria’s dictatorship as a cautionary tale for Tehran, the statement warned against appeasement, calling it “morally indefensible and politically reckless.”
Argentina’s declaration adds to growing global momentum behind the NCRI. In June 2024 alone, over 4,000 legislators and 100+ former heads of state endorsed Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan.
The statement concludes with a call to democratic governments worldwide: “Support the Iranian opposition’s vision for a secular republic, gender equality, abolition of the death penalty, and the separation of religion and state—core principles of Rajavi’s plan and the Iranian people’s fight for freedom.”
