Australian Political Support for Iranian Resistance
On August 8, 2025, amid escalating state-sanctioned executions in Iran, an Australian resolution sent a strong message of international solidarity. The resolution condemns Iran’s severe human rights violations and supports the Ten-Point Plan for a democratic Iran, advocated by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi.
Condemnation of Recent Executions
The resolution explicitly condemns the executions of political prisoners Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani. It warns of a possible repeat of the 1988 massacre, where 30,000 political prisoners were systematically executed. By supporting a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear Iran, the resolution distinguishes between the Iranian people and their oppressive regime.
Personal Testimony Highlights Regime’s Brutality
The resolution gained further impact through the testimony of Fahimeh Koshani, an Australian-Iranian community representative. She recounted her imprisonment and torture at age 14 due to her brother’s political activism. Her brother was executed at 20 simply for reading a newspaper. She holds up photos of Ehsani and Hassani, declaring, “Where their voices were silenced, my voice must be raised.” She urgently calls on the international community to act to save Saeed Masouri, a tortured political prisoner facing execution. Her message is clear: silence equals complicity.
Ghezel Hesar Prison Raid: A Blueprint for Repression
On July 26, 2025, over 100 armed guards stormed Unit 4 of Ghezel Hesar prison, executing PMOI members Ehsani and Hassani. The regime refused to return their bodies to families, blocking public mourning. Saeed Masouri was exiled to the brutal Zahedan prison as punishment for resistance. This raid exemplifies the regime’s systematic terror tactics.
Five Political Prisoners at Imminent Risk
Following this pattern, five PMOI supporters on death row face imminent execution. They include:
-
Vahid Bani Amerian, 33, management master’s degree holder
-
Babak Alipour, 34, law graduate and activist
-
Shahrokh Daneshvarkar, 58, civil engineer
-
Pouya Ghobadi, 33, electrical engineer
-
Mohammad Taghavi, 59, veteran political prisoner from the 1980s
The regime used damage from an airstrike on Tehran’s Evin Prison to justify inmate transfers aimed at executions.
Call for Global Principled Solidarity
This resolution models international response at a critical moment. It upholds the Iranian people’s democratic aspirations and condemns state terrorism. As Fahimeh Koshani stresses, the path forward is not bombs, silence, or appeasement, but principled solidarity. The international community, including the United Nations, must urgently verify the prisoners’ status and intervene to save their lives. Inaction aids ongoing state-sanctioned murder.
