Italian Parliament Hosts Landmark Conference on Iran: Backing Democratic Change and Rejecting Appeasement

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, the Italian Parliament held a major conference supporting the Iranian people’s movement for democracy and freedom. The event featured Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), alongside a distinguished group of Italian MPs, senators, and international dignitaries. Their united message was clear: time has run out for appeasement, and Iran needs a democratic future led by its people.

The Rise of a Democratic Alternative

The event highlighted a growing international consensus that past policies towards the Iranian regime—especially appeasement—have failed. Speakers condemned Tehran’s human rights abuses, regional destabilization, and pursuit of nuclear weapons.

A recurring theme was the “Third Option,” championed by Mrs. Rajavi—a path that rejects both foreign military intervention and appeasement, calling instead for democratic change led by the Iranian people and the organized Resistance.

A major announcement during the session was that a majority in the Italian Senate had endorsed the “Free Iran 2025” declaration, expressing support for Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan and urging the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi: The Third Option is the Path to a Free Iran

In her keynote address, Mrs. Rajavi outlined a clear roadmap for democratic change, stressing that the regime in Tehran is at its weakest and most vulnerable. She paid tribute to Behrouz Ehsani and Mehdi Hassani, recently executed members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), calling their deaths part of a wider campaign to suppress dissent.

She emphasized that the core conflict in Iran is a battle between the people and the regime, urging the international community to choose a side. Highlighting the NCRI’s decades-long record of organization and credibility, Mrs. Rajavi reiterated, “Our goal is not to seize power at any cost, but to guarantee freedom, democracy, and the people’s right to choose.”

Naike Gruppioni: Italy is Ready to Support a Free Iran

Opening the event, Naike Gruppioni, Italian MP and Foreign Affairs Committee member, emphasized the universal importance of the fight for freedom in Iran. She praised the courage of Iranian women and youth, affirming that the future of Iran must be peaceful, democratic, and shaped by Iranians themselves.

She hailed Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan as a tangible, realistic blueprint for a secular and democratic Iran. “It is not just a plan—it is a dream that is possible and just, and Maryam Rajavi is the leader who can bring it to life.”

Charles Michel: Appeasement Does Not Work, Silence is Complicity

Charles Michel, former President of the European Council and Prime Minister of Belgium, warned of the regime’s growing danger due to its weakening grip on power. He detailed the Iranian regime’s support for terrorism, cyberattacks, and nuclear ambitions.

“Appeasement has failed. Silence only fuels oppression. And yes—there is a democratic alternative, led by the organized resistance.” Michel endorsed Mrs. Rajavi’s plan as a credible roadmap from dictatorship to democracy.

Giulio Terzi: The Mullahs’ Regime is a Terrorist State

Senator Giulio Terzi, Chair of the EU Policies Committee in the Italian Senate, delivered a powerful critique of Western appeasement. Condemning the recent executions, he called out the hypocrisy of calling Massoud Pezeshkian a “moderate.”

He labeled Iran’s regime a “pariah terrorist state” and credited the NCRI with exposing Iran’s secret nuclear sites in 2002. “The NCRI is not just a resistance—it is a vital safeguard for global security. It deserves real political support.”

Lucio Malan: The Iranian People’s Struggle is Everyone’s Struggle

Senator Lucio Malan, leader of the Majority Caucus for the Brothers of Italy party, called Mrs. Rajavi a symbol of inspiration. He condemned Iran’s execution record and its role in international terrorism.

“This is not just Iran’s fight—it is the world’s fight. The Ten-Point Plan offers a peaceful, democratic vision for a great nation. Long live free Iran!”

Linda Chavez: Regime Change is the Only Way Forward

Linda Chavez, former White House Director of Public Liaison, said that only regime change can ensure global security. Criticizing Washington’s reluctance to support this outcome, she insisted that the Third Option isn’t just an alternative—it’s the only viable path.

She praised Mrs. Rajavi’s leadership, emphasizing the plan’s focus on gender equality, human rights, and a non-nuclear future.

Lorenzo Cesa: Europe Must Act Now

Lorenzo Cesa, MP and Head of Italy’s Delegation to NATO, shared a moving story of how Iranians are pleading for help. He urged the EU and Italian government to take decisive steps in supporting the Iranian people.

“It is time to act, not to watch. Europe must do more.”

Emanuele Pozzolo: We Stand with Those Who Love Life and Freedom

MP Emanuele Pozzolo described the regime as a symbol of hatred and death, while the Resistance represents hope and life.

“We stand with those fighting for good. We stand with you—firmly and forever.”

Simona Giaccardi: A Voice of Hope for Iran’s Youth

Simona Giaccardi, President of Fossano City Council, expressed solidarity on behalf of local Italian officials. She praised Mrs. Rajavi as a leader who gives hope to a generation that has never known freedom.

“Her voice carries the hope of a free Iran—and we stand behind her.”

Conclusion: A Turning Point in Global Solidarity with the Iranian People

The Italian Parliament’s conference was more than a symbolic gesture—it marked a growing international alliance for democratic change in Iran. With unified voices backing Maryam Rajavi’s vision and the NCRI’s roadmap, a clear message was sent: the time for appeasement is over, and the future of Iran belongs to its people.
